Gold Fever Booth

Eugene Kam Photography made a splash with gold at the Hawaii Bridal Expo held January 16 - 18 at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.  We collaborated with the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Florist Grand, and Les Saison to create the Rodeo Drive intersection of the show.

Looks are deceiving

Don't let his rock star hairstyle fool you; Koyo is a minister with the Higashi Hongwanji.  He and his bride Momona were married in the courtyard of the Halekulani on January 4th.  As often typical with japanese brides, Momona was embarrassed by all the attention focussed upon her.  She was very self conscious about taking photos on the beach in front of the tourists and beach goers, but the beautiful shots of Diamond Head were worth it.

First wedding of 2009

"Is this your first wedding for 2009?'  This was the first question asked by Ela when she greeted us at her suite before her ceremony on January 3rd.  She and her groom Kelby were married at Saint Augustine Church and then proceeded for photos at La Pietra.  The highlight of the day was the unexpected surprise Ela and Kelby had prepared for their guests.  Telly Brandon of Showtime DJs spent 5 days of rehearsal time to teach the couple the evolution of dance-- a routine made famous on YouTube.

New Years Day 2009 at Hualalai

Sun, surfing, tennis lessons--what more could one ask for to start the new year on the right track?  We had the pleasure of spending some time at Hualalai Resort in Kona to capture action photos for our client.  The greeting card made from the resulting images must have been a big hit with recipients still dealing with the winter's cold.

You & I (and our vendors)

Every bride selects her wedding professionals with care, but the quality of the vendors is especially important when the wedding involves just a bride and groom.  Brittany and Tony planned a beautiful ceremony for 2 on the Diamond Lawn of the Moana Surfrider on December 22.  Since Brittany was without bridesmaids, Beverly from Hair and Makeup by Beverly Kaneshige helped Brittany lace her gown and put on her shoes as part of her service to prepare the bride for the aisle. Brittany was thrilled when we remarked she looked just like Lisa-Marie Presley because that was exactly the look she was aiming for.  On the lawn, Debbie Hemingway of Designs by Hemingway created an airy arbor with orange orchids suspended in the breeze.  

Odds in their favor

Las Vegas is known for wedding chapels, among other things, but Jill and Dino came from Las Vegas to Oahu for their wedding at the Halekulani on December 28.  To tie their Vegas connection into the wedding, the couple had custom poker chips made with their photo.  A post-bridal photo session was scheduled the day after the ceremony, and since Jill was not concerned about keeping her gown clean, she and Dino had fun taking photos as the waves of Sandy Beach washed up around them.

Sand beneath my feet

The Kahala Hotel and Resort is a popular venue for brides and grooms who want Hawaii's breathtaking beach as the backdrop for their ceremony.  Destination couples want to feel the sandy under their feet and let the waves lap around their ankles.  Beach weddings have become so popular that the hotel now offers a special package so a couple can exchange vows right on the beach.  On December 19, Kerrie and Jim Dupry enjoyed a beach stroll after their ceremony at the Diamond Head Gazebo.

A DIY inspiration

Lanikuhonoa is a popular wedding venue because of its beach front location.  But how do you transform a park atmosphere into and give it wedding wow?  Most couple need to call in the floral stylist and event coordinators, but Scott and Adrienne decided to do it themselves.  Scott created the stunning gazebo which perfectly framed the couple with out obscuring the view of the ocean and sky.  Peony Florals, Kahala Caterers and Michele Ganiko (the bride's niece) from the Hyatt Regency helped the couple make this event a success.

North shore jewel

Across the BYU campus in Kahuku lies an oasis of beach homes hidden from the rest of Oahu.  This is where Vera and Eric called home in the days leading to their wedding at the Turtle Bay Resort.  On November 30 the skies were threatening rain, but this did not affect our photo shoot at the 4 bedroom beach front home.  Later the couple exchanged vows at the resort's seaside chapel--the Pavilion.

Kahala's can do attitude

The heavy rains the eve of November 23rd created last minute changes for Stacy and Craig's outdoor ceremony at the Kahala Hotel.  Stuart Kotake and his catering team effortlessly moved the wedding indoors to the lobby which still gave ceremony an airy feeling with the high ceilings and glass doors. Partnering with the top-notch professionals at the Kahala Resort makes our job easy and pleasurable, and the wedding couples receive the upscale treatment they desire on their special day.
